Light my fire (2023) installation - a box of matches, candles in romantic colours, a pack of fireworks, a firework cone, sparklers, a 9mm pistol (replica), six torn-out and crumpled pages from the Salvadoran newspaper “La Prensa Gráfica” (issues 17th February 2023, 17th June 2023, 21st June 2023, 23th June 2023, 5th July 2023, 21st July 2023), wooden table with glass top - approx. 70 x 70 x 60 cm

In July and August 2023, I visited my maternal family in El Salvador for the first time in sixteen years. Although I had engaged with the titular, metaphorical prase Light my fire long before, I was only able to realize this installation during that period. The work brings together various objects that can literally be used to ignite fire, indluding newspaper pages from the Salvadoran newspaper La Prensa Gráfica reporting on different cases of femicide and domestic violence, as well as a replica firearm - an item that would have been significantly more difficult for me to obtain in Switzerland.
